Moonfrost, a cozy life sim built around farming, home building, and a mystery involving a second moon, launches into Early Access on Steam on October 12. Developer Oxalis Games and publisher iterco describe it as a blend of Stardew Valley-style village life and story-driven RPG exploration, and a free demo is already available if you want to try before committing.
What Moonfrost is about
The premise sets it apart from the usual cozy farming game. A second moon has appeared in the sky, triggering constant meteor storms that have devastated the world. Your character is a Frost Hunter, someone who can harness the dangerous energy left behind by those storms, and your goal is to rebuild the world one shard at a time while uncovering your own forgotten past.
Day-to-day gameplay covers familiar life-sim ground: growing crops, fishing, cooking, gathering resources, and building a home that can range from a small cottage to a full castle. There is also a relationship system with a cast of NPCs you can befriend, learn about, and help face personal struggles. The RPG side adds dungeon-style temple exploration with over 20 rooms, hundreds of crafting blueprints for furniture, outfits, and gear, and a central storyline that weaves through all of it.
What to expect in Early Access
The initial Early Access build includes roughly half of the main storyline, exploration content up to Level 19, and 11 NPCs with relationship progression capped at Level 3. Oxalis Games also lists expanded character customization, an in-game map, and updated quest tracking as part of the launch build. The studio says the EA version contains "dozens of hours of content."
According to the Steam page, the plan is to complete the full storyline and all friendship and romance content within about six months. The price will go up after Early Access ends, so early adopters get a lower entry point. A full release is targeted for 2027 on both Steam and Epic Games Store.
Who this is for
If you have been looking for something in the Stardew Valley and farming-sim space that leans harder into narrative and RPG mechanics, Moonfrost looks like a promising option to keep an eye on. The pixel-art visuals sit in a 2.5D isometric style, and the game supports English audio with subtitles in Spanish, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, and Japanese.
For anyone exploring what else is out there in the life-sim space, we recently covered Monster Fantasy, which similarly blends action mechanics with cozy village life, and the autumn sale roundup has current deals across life sims on Steam and the EA App.
