The Sims 4's August 25 update adds a free afro-textured hairstyle called cosmic coils and six new clothing items designed to fit Sims of every body shape. The update is live now on PC, Mac, and consoles.

The Sims Introduced New Hair, Size-Inclusive Looks & More for Free

Cosmic coils and size-inclusive fashion

The cosmic coils hairstyle draws from the art of natural hair sculpting and is described by Maxis as offering "bold and whimsical creative possibilities." It is available for free in Create a Sim as part of the base game.

Alongside the hairstyle, six new clothing pieces arrive in CAS with a focus on body diversity. The items span both feminine and masculine frames and include a dress, tops, jeans, cardigans, shirts, and slacks. The designs lean on form-fitted styles, bold patterns, and silhouettes that highlight natural curves, with Maxis noting that "all sizes are Sim sizes."

Five pre-styled looks using the new clothes are also available, and five new Starter Sims wearing the outfits appear in CAS and the Gallery.

Continuing a pattern from recent updates

This drop follows a July update that introduced eight new CAS Starter Sims and accessories reflecting Native American, South Asian, Caribbean, and Latin American cultures. Maxis has described both rounds of content as part of an ongoing commitment to inclusivity and self-expression in CAS, building on earlier additions like last year's West African clothing options.

If you missed the June 30 patch that finally let you silence your Sim's phone, that fix is still in effect too.

What else is in the patch

Beyond the CAS additions, the August 25 patch notes list a new Marketplace image cache that stores thumbnails locally after your first visit, cutting down load times on repeat browsing. The cache sits in your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\onlinethumbnailcache folder, caps at 250 MB, and auto-cleans 14 days after your last Marketplace visit. You can also clear it manually with the cheat clearonlinethumbnailcache true.

A handful of bug fixes round out the update: a layout glitch on Marketplace pages accessed via CAS Quick Buy is resolved, a top PlayStation crash at launch has been addressed, and right-stick scrolling no longer gets stuck on Marketplace and Pack Details pages on console.

Two paid kits also launched on August 27: the Mean Girls Capsule Kit (Y2K-inspired glam) and the Clueless Capsule Kit (90s plaid and trendsetting outfits). Those are separate purchases and not part of the free update.
