Privacy notice
In short
- You can read SimGoodie without an account, and we do not run analytics or advertising trackers.
- SimGoodie itself sets no cookies.
- If you sign up for the Game Log emails, we keep your email address with our email provider until you unsubscribe.
- Some services we use (hosting, fonts, embedded videos and the podcast player) receive technical data such as your IP address when your browser loads them.
Who is responsible
The data controller is Blikket LLC.
What we collect and why
Visiting the website
The website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc.). To deliver pages and protect the site against abuse, Cloudflare processes technical data about each request: your IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser's user agent. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Cloudflare acts as our processor and may process data in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
Game Log emails
If you sign up, we collect your email address and the fact that you agreed to receive the emails, with the time and the page you signed up on. We use it only to send you new Game Log entries and news about SimGoodie. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), given by ticking the box on the form. Every email has a link to unsubscribe, and unsubscribing removes you from the list straight away.
The emails are sent through Klaviyo (Klaviyo, Inc., United States), which stores the list for us as our processor. Klaviyo may record whether an email was opened and which links were clicked, so we can see whether the emails are useful. Transfers to the United States rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
You can unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of every email, or by writing to us. We then delete your address from the list, except for a minimal record that you unsubscribed, which keeps us from emailing you again.
Optional supporter credits
If you ask to be listed on our supporter thank-you page, we publish only the name or alias and supporter group you agree to share. We keep the request and membership verification private. You can ask Alexander through Patreon to change or remove your credit from the current website. Staying unlisted does not affect your other membership benefits.
Fonts
The website currently loads its typefaces from Google Fonts (Google LLC). When your browser requests them, Google receives your IP address. Google states that it does not use this data to build profiles or target ads.
Embedded videos and the podcast player
Some news articles embed YouTube videos (Google LLC), and podcast pages embed a player from Mato (heymato.com). These load from their providers' servers, which receive your IP address and may set their own cookies, especially when you press play. Their own privacy policies apply.
Images from our content system
Article images are fetched from our own content system through our website, so no third party is involved.
Cookies and storage
SimGoodie does not set cookies or use local storage. Embedded third-party content described above may do so under its own policy.
Analytics
We do not use analytics services at the moment. If that changes, this notice will say so first.
How long we keep data
- Email addresses: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- Hosting logs: for the short period Cloudflare needs for delivery and security.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, which applies in the EU and, through the EEA Agreement, in Norway, you have the right to access the data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw your consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. To use these rights, contact Blikket LLC.
You can also complain to a data protection authority, for example Datatilsynet in Norway, Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY) in Sweden, Datatilsynet in Denmark, or the authority where you live.
Children
The Game Log emails are not meant for children under 13.
