Witchbrook, the fantasy life sim from Chucklefish and co-developer Robotality, is launching on 28 January 2027. The announcement came during the latest Nintendo Indie World showcase, putting a firm date on a game that has been in development for over a decade.

The game will be available on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. It will also be on Game Pass from day one.

Witchbrook Release Date Announced

A witch school life sim set in Mossport

Witchbrook drops players into the seaside town of Mossport, where they enroll at Witchbrook College as an aspiring witch. Day-to-day life involves attending lectures, alchemy labs, and arcane arts classes, but the game stretches well beyond the school walls.

According to the official Witchbrook site, players can ride broomsticks across the town, decorate and furnish a cottage (starting from a "dusty fixer-upper"), grow a garden, fish, run deliveries, and take part in seasonal festivals like the Tulip Festival. NPCs follow daily routines that shift with the weather and seasons, and seven dateable covenmate characters have been revealed so far, each with their own storyline, with four more yet to be announced.

The game supports online co-op for up to four players.

Witchbrook Finally Gets a Release Date on Switch 2 After Years of Waiting

Influences and art style

Chucklefish has listed Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon, the work of Studio Ghibli, Little Witch Academia, Steven Universe, and Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series among its influences. The release date trailer shows detailed pixel art environments, from frosty glades to colourful town squares, along with spell-casting through directional movements, a recipe book for crafting potions and ointments, constellation-finding, tarot readings, and what appears to be a flying car sequence.

For a studio best known for publishing Stardew Valley and developing Wargroove, Witchbrook is the most ambitious original project Chucklefish has attempted. The scope of the world, with named locations like Elwood Square, Parasol Sands, Shadhollow Forest, and Meadowlark Farm, goes some way toward explaining why development stretched past the ten-year mark.

Wide platform and language support at launch

Beyond the broad platform spread, Witchbrook will launch with localisation in ten languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Russian, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

The combination of Game Pass availability, Switch 2 support, and a January release window puts Witchbrook in a relatively uncrowded stretch of the calendar for life sims. Players who have been watching this one since its early announcements finally have a concrete date to plan around, and early 2027 is shaping up to be a busy period for the genre alongside titles like the PS5 version of inZOI, which is also expected in the first half of next year.
