Game director Kjun posted a development diary today sharing a candid look at where inZOI stands heading into the September 3rd update, and the tone is more reflective than the usual patch preview.
Rather than leading with a feature list, Kjun framed the upcoming changes as things the team should have gotten right earlier. His words carry the weight of someone measuring the gap between intention and execution:
"There are things we should have done better from the beginning, and only now does it feel like we are finally completing some of these long-overdue tasks."
He compared the feeling to walking away from an exam and realizing you got a question wrong that you knew the answer to, or saying goodbye to an old friend and wishing you had said more.
Behavioral fixes over flashy additions
The update arriving September 3rd targets how Zois behave when left to their own devices. According to Kjun, autonomous character behavior has been reworked so that Zois respond to their surroundings in ways that make more intuitive sense. Three specific changes stand out:
- Basic needs like sleep and hunger will be satisfied "more naturally," meaning fewer instances of Zois ignoring obvious solutions to their own problems.
- Characters will sit at the same table as their loved ones, rather than choosing random seats.
- Zois who can drive will actually get into their car and drive themselves to a destination on their own.
These are not headline features. They are the kind of systemic corrections that players notice only when they are missing, and the kind of work that tends to get pushed down a priority list during a hectic launch window. That Kjun is framing them as a philosophical turning point rather than just a bullet list says something about where the team's head is at.
This update also rebuilds the emotion system and adds door knocking, kitchen fires, and errand delegation, as covered in our earlier breakdown.
The customer service system that did not make the cut
One planned feature was pulled from the September 3rd patch: a customer service system for player-owned venues. Kjun says a prototype will be ready next week, describing a flow where customers arrive, sit at a table, eat, pay, and leave. The team is also building in specific scenario handling to prevent establishment owners from casually sitting in customer seats and eating.
The venue system's delay is not surprising given the scope. It is, however, worth noting how openly the team is discussing what missed the cut and why. For a game that has drawn comparisons and competition from both The Sims and Paralives, that kind of transparency about prioritization helps set realistic expectations. The PS5 version is already delayed to the first half of 2027, so Krafton clearly has no shortage of plates spinning.
The September 3rd update should land in a few days. The venue system will likely follow as a post-launch hotfix, though no firm date has been given for it.
