InZOI's development team has outlined what players can expect from an October 2026 update, while lead developer Hyungjun "Kjun" Kim addressed community confusion around the game's multiplayer plans after a recent event in China.

The short version: modding tools, daily routines for Zois, editable schedules, and a smarter conversation system are all headed to the single-player game next month. Multiplayer remains a separate, small-scale testing effort with a dedicated subset of the team.

What the October update includes

Kjun confirmed three headline additions for the October update in a follow-up post on September 16:

  • Modding capabilities, including a new modkit feature that lets creators change the animation and positioning of Zois seated while driving.
  • A daily routine system where Zois will live, work, and return home on their own schedules.
  • Tools for players to directly edit those daily schedules.

Alongside these, the latest developer diary (September 18) detailed improvements to InZOI's autonomy and conversation systems. Right now, Zoi-to-Zoi conversations do not account well for relationships, emotions, or context, which can lead to awkward or situationally inappropriate dialogue. The October mini update will rework the selection logic so conversations factor in all three. The tradeoff, as Kjun acknowledged, is that stricter filtering shrinks the pool of suitable lines, so the team is also expanding the total amount of dialogue content to prevent repetition.

Autonomy and simulation tweaks from the developer diary

Beyond the conversation overhaul, the developer diary previewed a long list of smaller changes already in progress:

  • Zois will only seek full meals autonomously when their hunger bar is in the red. In the yellow zone, they will look for lighter options like desserts or drinks instead.
  • A "talk on the phone" interaction lets Zois kill time and raise their social need without targeting a specific relationship.
  • Zois no longer change into full athletic outfits for casual exercises like stretching.
  • Karma-influencing interactions have been removed from the recommended action list, so your Zoi's karma only shifts when you deliberately choose those actions.
  • Avoidance animations have been improved for crowded areas where many Zois collide.
  • Zois can now re-wash dishes that were already done, a small realism detail where you can only be sure they are clean if you do it yourself.

The diary also showed off a basketball activity with a shot-timing mini-game, expanded surfing and diving with a first-person camera option, working cinema cash registers where Zois order popcorn and drinks, and a Create-A-Zoi update that lets you view and adjust relationship levels between household members before entering the game.

Kjun clears up multiplayer confusion

The China event generated mixed signals about InZOI's direction. The demo focused on mod support and story-save features rather than the online town concept, and Kjun admitted the video content framing around the event "caused confusion" that was partly his misjudgment.

He laid out the current state plainly: InZOI is being developed with the goal of becoming an online life simulation where players live together in a town, but the team plans to evaluate whether that format provides real value through small-scale tests first. Multiplayer features actively in development and testing include multi-story residential housing, support for 20 or more players living simultaneously in a single town, door locking and visitor eviction, simultaneous house building by multiple players, and systems for forming relationships at parties and earning income through careers.

A new fully customizable city is being built for these tests, with all lots except roadways editable. The team is exploring a dedicated editor for roads and fixed elements.

Crucially, Kjun stressed that "the vast majority of our development team remains dedicated to single-player, which serves as the foundation for everything we build." Only a small dedicated group handles multiplayer adaptation. For players who have been following InZOI since the PS5 version was pushed to the first half of 2027, this reaffirmation that single-player is not losing resources to multiplayer work is worth noting.

The October update does not yet have an exact release date. Kjun closed by saying the team's flexible framework allows them to test features in varied ways, and that more communication would follow soon.
