InZOI's next major update arrives on September 3rd at 6:00 AM UTC, bringing a ground-up rework of the emotion system, several new interactions, and improvements to how Zois handle their daily routines. Developer Kjun confirmed the date in this week's developer diary after the update slipped from its original August window.
Emotion system rebuilt from the ground up
The headline change in this patch is a full overhaul of how Zois experience and display emotions. Rather than layering new feelings onto an increasingly inconsistent system, the team went back to basics and reviewed every trigger.
Specific fixes include parents no longer gaining "Confidence" when a toddler throws a tantrum (now correctly tagged as "Annoyed"), and removing purely random mood swings that had no in-world cause. Cheap furniture no longer triggers negative emotions on its own, though low-performance items like worn-out beds still affect mood. School uniforms no longer cause heat or cold reactions, since Zois have no choice about wearing them.
On the visibility side, the most recent emotion now appears at the top of tooltips, social buffs display the other person's name, and timestamps have been added. New animations cover Inspiration, Excitement, Triumph, Laughter, Joy, and Boredom, and autonomous actions now show a thought-bubble icon explaining why a Zoi chose to do something.
New interactions and autonomous behavior
Several smaller but welcome additions round out the update:
- Zois can sit on their bed and watch television.
- A "Send on an errand" command lets you dispatch household members to handle tasks.
- Visiting other Zois now uses a door-knocking system. Close friends and family can walk right in; strangers must knock and wait for permission.
- Zois prefer to sit near people they know rather than grabbing the nearest empty seat.
- Babies and toddlers now wear little arm sleeves when eating messy food in the high chair.
- Leaving food cooking unattended can start a fire, and firefighters will respond if a smoke detector is installed.
- Business interactions are now gated by relationship: only work-related options appear until you get to know a Zoi better.
Basic needs like sleep and hunger are handled more naturally, and Zois who own vehicles will autonomously get into their cars and drive to destinations.
Venue system delayed
One promised feature did not make the cut. The venue system, where customers arrive, sit, eat, pay, and leave, has a working prototype but could not be finalized in time for the September 3rd build. Kjun says the team is continuing development and hopes to deliver it through a post-launch hotfix. The related fix preventing shop owners from sitting in customer seats and eating is part of the same delayed package.
Since InZOI's PS5 version was pushed to the first half of 2027, the PC Early Access branch remains the primary platform for these incremental updates.
