InZOI's next patch arrives on September 3rd at 6:00 AM UTC, bringing a ground-up emotion system rework, fire hazards, door-knocking, errand delegation, and a stack of simulation improvements. Director Kjun confirmed the date in a developer diary posted today, while acknowledging that the promised venue system did not make it into this build.

The update was originally expected sometime in August. Kjun noted that the team has been working "at a relentless pace" over the past two months and encouraged players to check the full patch notes when they drop: "I think you'll be surprised by just how many areas we've worked on and improved."

Emotion system rebuilt from scratch

The headline change in this patch is a full overhaul of how Zois experience and display emotions. According to Kjun's mid-week follow-up on August 26th, the team went "back to square one" after recognizing that piecemeal additions over time had made the overall logic inconsistent.

Specific fixes include:

  • Parents no longer gain "Confidence" when a toddler throws a tantrum (now correctly triggers "Annoyed")
  • Receiving a terrible gift no longer produces "Serene" (switched to "Baffled")
  • Purely random mood swings with no in-game trigger have been removed entirely
  • Buying inexpensive furniture no longer causes negative emotions on its own, though low-performance items like old beds still affect mood
  • School uniforms no longer trigger temperature-based negative emotions, since Zois do not choose to wear them

Transparency also got attention. The most recently acquired emotion now sits at the top of the tooltip stack, social buffs display the other person's name, and timestamps are visible for each emotion gained. On the visual side, new reaction animations cover Inspiration, Excitement, Triumph, Laughter, Joy, and Boredom, while autonomous behavior now shows an icon explaining why a Zoi chose a particular action.

New interactions and household tools

Several quality-of-life features ship alongside the emotion work:

  • A "Send on an errand" command lets you delegate tasks to other household members instead of handling them yourself.
  • Door-knocking is now required when visiting someone you do not know well. Friends and family can walk right in; strangers must knock and wait for permission.
  • Zois can sit on their bed and watch television.
  • Seating preferences are relationship-aware: Zois now prefer to sit near people they know rather than grabbing whatever chair is closest.
  • Business interactions are gated by familiarity. Only business-related options appear until you build a relationship with that Zoi.
  • Babies and toddlers now wear arm sleeves when eating messy food in the high chair.

Fire hazards and firefighters

Leaving food cooking unattended too long can now start a fire, and burned food is modeled as a separate outcome. Firefighters will respond when a fire breaks out, apparently triggered by a smoke detector item visible in preview screenshots. This adds the first real domestic hazard system to InZOI's simulation loop.

Venue system delayed, hotfix possible

Kjun was upfront about one missing piece: the venue system, where customers arrive, sit to eat, pay, and leave, did not make this build. The prototype is expected next week, and the team is "continuing development even now in hopes of delivering it through a hotfix if possible." The diary frames the delay as a consequence of redesigning the autonomy system from the ground up, a change that made it harder to finalize context-specific NPC behavior like preventing shop owners from sitting in customer seats.

For players following InZOI's development roadmap, the venue system remains one of the bigger outstanding promises heading into fall.

Autonomy and simulation polish

Beyond the marquee features, Kjun highlighted foundational simulation changes: Zois now handle sleep and hunger more naturally, vehicle owners get into their cars and drive to destinations on their own, and autonomous behavior better fits the surrounding context. These kinds of under-the-hood improvements are harder to show off in screenshots but tend to be what separates a stiff sandbox from a living neighborhood over dozens of hours of play.

The patch drops next Thursday. Full patch notes should follow when the update goes live.
