Japanese Rural Life Adventure, the pixel-art cozy life sim from developer Game Start and publisher G-MODE, is now available on PlayStation. The PS4 release (also playable on PS5) lands today, November 6, priced at $19.99 on the PlayStation Store.
PlayStation Plus subscribers can pick it up for $15.99 thanks to a 20% launch discount that runs through November 19.
From mobile to multi-platform
The game first appeared on iOS in 2023 through Apple Arcade, where it topped charts in both Japan and the US. A Nintendo Switch and Steam version followed in March 2026, and the PlayStation release rounds out its presence across major platforms.
On Steam, the game currently holds a "Very Positive" rating from over 240 user reviews, with roughly 80% of those being positive.
What the game actually involves
Japanese Rural Life Adventure drops you into a traditional Japanese countryside village rendered in detailed pixel art. The core loop is about restoring a heritage home, growing crops, fishing, catching bugs, and gradually becoming self-sufficient. Cooking plays a central role: you prepare dishes at an irori hearth and craft staples like miso, soy sauce, and salt by hand.
Seasonal shifts drive much of the variety. Spring brings cherry blossom viewing, summer has festivals, autumn means sweet potato harvests, and winter ends with temple bells. Villagers offer tasks that change depending on the season, time of day, and location, and completing them strengthens relationships, opens items, and opens up new areas to explore.
G-MODE advertises over 100 hours of total playtime across the game's missions, which puts it in a similar territory to other long-form life sims. For players looking for alternatives outside the usual big-name franchises, that depth at a $20 price point (or less with the PS Plus discount) is worth a look. If you are keeping tabs on the growing indie life-sim space, this one has already proven itself on other platforms before reaching PlayStation.
The game supports 15 languages including English, Japanese, Korean, French, and German, and runs as a PS4 title with PS5 backward compatibility.
