The Sims 4's October 27, 2026 patch (Update 1.129.39.1030) is one of the biggest free updates of the year, headlined by a food and dining overhaul, new body customization toggles, a batch of elder-focused content, and well over 150 bug fixes. Here is what changed and why it matters for your saves.

The Sims 4 October 2026 update patch notes, New items, food overhaul, body toggles, and more

Food, dining, and drink overhaul

The cooking and eating systems got a sweeping pass in this update. EA retuned food pricing and calorie values across the base game and every pack, aiming for more consistent and sensible numbers. Your Sims will also now prefer eating leftovers from the fridge or counter before cooking a brand new meal, which should cut down on wasted dishes and unnecessary autonomy loops.

The "Open" interaction on the fridge has been moved to the first page of the pie menu, so you no longer have to dig through options to grab a snack. Baked goods placed in hard-to-reach spots can be decorated with a new "Quickly Decorate" interaction instead of route-failing.

One of the bigger additions here is the expansion of the Family Recipes system from the Businesses and Hobbies expansion pack. Over 375 pre-existing dishes from the base game and other packs, including many cultural recipes, can now be designated as Family Recipes.

The Dine Out pack received its own dedicated round of 25-plus fixes. Sims no longer leave their restaurant tables to jog, dig in the trash, view decor, watch TV, play with paper airplanes, or duel with swords. Waiters actually clean dishes now, customers stop socializing once seated, and chef skill requirements have been rebalanced. Boba Tea from High School Years finally has its liquid, cap, and straw when ordered at a restaurant. If you gave up on Dine Out restaurants, this is the patch that warrants another try. SimGoodie covered the initial Dine Out fixes in our day-one patch summary.

Muscle and weight toggles

A long-requested feature: you can now control whether your Sims gain or lose muscle and weight during gameplay. Two new toggles live under the Gameplay tab in Settings, applying globally to your save. If you want finer control, click on an individual Sim, find the Sim Physique section under the new "Sim Options..." pie menu, and toggle muscle and weight changes separately per Sim. The two settings are independent, so you can freeze weight while still allowing muscle changes, or vice versa.

These toggles do not apply to pets from Cats and Dogs or horses from Horse Ranch.

A related fix worth noting: the Adventure Awaits free weights and the Royalty and Legacy sword fighting interactions no longer cause extreme muscle gain or weight loss, which was a separate issue that stacked on top of the old system.

Free elder content

The update adds 22 new or recolored items aimed at elder Sims, though all of them work on teens, young adults, and adults too. For a detailed look at every item, we broke those down separately.

In CAS, you get two new hairstyles (Quiff Side Part and Half-Down Waves), four clothing pieces (Polo Shirt with Cardigan, Long Dress with Lace and Buttons, Sleeveless Blouse, Long Skirt with Pockets), and five recolors of existing items. In Build Mode, there are eleven new objects ranging from the Needlepoint Nook Chair and the Floral Fossil sofa to Heritage Home Drapery in three widths and a Bloom and Gingham Delight wallpaper. A new Styled Room and four Styled Looks make all of it easy to find.

Quality of life changes

Three smaller but welcome improvements round out the non-fix content:

  • Televisions can now be locked by Sim category, just like computers. No more random townies turning on your TV during a dinner party.
  • Uncategorized self-interactions (things like Disable Attraction, Rock Paper Scissors Preference, Utensil Preference, and the new Sim Physique toggles) have been grouped into a "Sim Options..." pie menu category instead of cluttering the top level.
  • The Save Backup system now tracks time more reliably between sessions, especially after extended breaks from the game.

Notable bug fixes

Beyond the Dine Out overhaul, the patch addresses some high-impact issues:

  • An endless loading screen caused by excessive Move Objects cheat usage on lots has been fixed.
  • An infinite white screen when loading certain saves with residential rentals is resolved.
  • Bartenders now accept food and drink orders even while socializing or practicing tricks.
  • Infants fall asleep in cribs without needing extremely low Energy first.
  • Sims no longer place food in display cases or other inappropriate locations.
  • A save corruption issue causing infinite load screens on specific saves has been addressed.
  • Console players no longer experience 20-plus second freezes after accessing a player's Gallery Catalog.
  • Fourteen new crash fixes target issues ranging from trait incompatibilities to romance story arc progression to uploading large families to the Gallery.

The full official patch notes, including dozens of CAS tagging corrections and pack-specific fixes, are available on EA's website. For the original reporting that surfaced these details, see Yahoo Tech via Google News - The Sims 4.
